A mob in Brazil chopped off the penis of a man suspected of raping a 3-year-old girl.
The 66-year-old ranch housekeeper Francisco de Souza de Castro allegedly raped the minor who was brought by her grandparents to the ranch over the weekend.
The group also cut off his three fingers.
The resident of Severinia, Sao Paulo, was rushed to a Santa Casa de Misericordia Hospital in the nearby town of Barretos, where doctors unsuccessfully attempted to re-attach the mutilated body parts, local daily Estadoa reports. According to the newspaper, Castro reportedly raped the girl on the ranch.
New York Daily News reports that the girl's mother noticed the signs of sexual assault after the victim returned home later that night. It is believed the angry crowd comprised of the girl's relatives, local media reports.
According to Marcelo Pupo, the police chief in charge of the case said that Castro was conscious when he was attacked and would be able to recognize the attackers. Castor remained hospitalized. Police are yet to identify the attackers. Local authorities are searching for suspects.
He also said that the forensic test results of the young girl are not confirmed yet. But, he noted that that it appeared she was sexually assaulted.
