Hugh Jackman's Skin Cancer Returns; Actor Urges Social Media to Use Sunscreen

Actor Hugh Jackman revealed Thursday that he is once again battling skin cancer.

The 45-year-old "X-Men: Days of Future past" actor shared with his fans and social media followers a post-treatment picture off his bandaged nose. According to the New York Daily News, the actor recently underwent his second round of surgery.

"Another Basel Cell Carsinoma. All out now. Thanks Dr. Albom and Dr. Arian," Jackman captioned the Instagram picture. "PLEASE! PLEASE! WEAR SUNSCREEN!"

Last November, the actor revealed that doctors had discovered a cancerous growth on his nose. Jackman said his wife of 17 years, Deborra-Lee Furness noticed a mark on his nose and urged him to get it check. Jackman is reportedly battling basal cell carcinoma.

Basal Cell Carcinomas "are abnormal, uncontrolled growths or lesions [that] often look like open sores, red patches, pink growths, shiny bumps, or scars," according to the Skin Cancer Foundation.

BCC growths are "usually caused by a combination of cumulative UV exposure and intense, occasional UV exposure." The Skin Cancer Foundation warns that the disease can be disfiguring if not treated promptly.

Jackman, who is set to host the Tony Awards for the third time, recently announced that he is looking forward to returning to the Broadway stage. Jackman will star in "The River," a Jez Butterworth play about a trout fisherman in a remote cabin who is visited by two of the women in his life..

"I'm going back to Broadway. I'm doing a play called ‘The River,' a Jez Butterworth play. So I'm really looking forward to treading the boards here on Broadway," Jackman confirmed to The Associated Press on Thursday.

"The River," which will be directed by Ian Rickson, will begin previews in October at the Circle in the Square theatre. Jackman will appear on the big screen as Wolverine in "X-Men: Days of Future Past," opening May 23.
