Actress Angelina Jolie revealed how much fun she had playing the iconic villain during a press conference about "Maleficnet" on Friday, Express U.K. reports.
"I can't tell you how much fun it was. It was like being a big kid when I got the script," she said. "I have always been curious about her - ever since I was a little girl, I loved her. So I was actually quite afraid to play the role in the first place but I just had to embrace my bizarre and my silliness."
Jolie added that her kids loved her "Maleficent" voice and weren't scared of her like the other kids were when she was in costume.
"The interesting thing about it as that as much as she's a villain and she's dark and considered mean. I was very playful as her," Jolie said during a press conference. "My children love Maleficent's voice so they would always ask me to do it. I came home very silly - it definitely brought out the child in me."
Though she loves the story of "Maleficent," the actress likes to tell her kids stories that have a strong moral lesson rather than a "happy ending."
"I think it's different now for my girls. I usually make up stories and involve them as characters," Jolie said during the press conference. "The side of fairytales I don't like are the happy endings, a good story for children is one where there's a good moral tale. That's what I try to teach them."
"Maleficent" will be release to theaters on May 30. Check out Disney's official film synopsis and trailer below:
"'Maleficent' is the untold story of Disney's most iconic villain from the 1959 classic 'Sleeping Beauty.' A beautiful, pure-hearted young woman, Maleficent has an idyllic life growing up in a peaceable forest kingdom, until one day when an invading army threatens the harmony of the land. Maleficent rises to be the land's fiercest protector, but she ultimately suffers a ruthless betrayal-an act that begins to turn her pure heart to stone. Bent on revenge, Maleficent faces an epic battle with the invading king's successor and, as a result, places a curse upon his newborn infant Aurora. As the child grows, Maleficent realizes that Aurora holds the key to peace in the kingdom-and perhaps to Maleficent's true happiness as well."
