McDonald's has debuted its new Shakin' Flavor Fries in the United States.
According to a press release, the fast food giant began evaluating consumers' responses to the menu items in Sacramento, Stockton and Modesto, Calif., on Friday.
A California McDonald's restaurant owner said the new product allowed customers to choose their own fry flavor: garlic parmesan, spicy buffalo, or zesty ranch.
"McDonald's is known for its world famous french fries and now our customers have the option to fully customize their fries with the seasoning of their choice," Steve Ramirez said in a statement.
Ramirez also said the new fries are a significant milestone in the company's history.
"This is an exciting time for McDonald's in Northern California, as our customers get to be one of the first in the entire nation as part of a test to experience Shakin' Flavor Fries," he stated.
Shakin Flavor Fries are also available in St. Louis, Mo.
McDonald's wanted to bring the food to the United States after proven success internationally.
"This has been such a huge hit in the Asia markets so we lobbied to bring this to the Sacramento market specifically so our guests could enjoy customizing their French Fries in a brand new, fun way," Ramirez said.
Customers mix their selected seasoning with fries inside a complimentary fry bag. Those who buy the food between Friday and Sunday will receive seasoning packs at no charge with the purchase of fries. The flavors will available separately for 25 cents after the weekend.
McDonald's called the fries "Shake Shake" in Asia. The company initially unveiled the product in Hong Kong before expanding it to other cities in China, India and Australia, the press release reported.
A Shakin' Flavor Fries food truck gives out free samples in the test cities beginning Thursday during a five day trip.
