Chris Brown was ordered to remain in a Los Angeles jail after admitting to violating his probation by getting arrested in Washington.
According to the Associated Press, the troubled R&B singer appeared in a Los Angeles courtroom Friday afternoon wearing an orange jail jumpsuit and handcuffs admitted to misdemeanor assault charges he received last year. Last October, Brown was accused of punching a man outside his hotel in Washington, D.C.
The 25-year-old singer was sentenced to an additional 131 days behind bars. L.A. Superior Court Judge James R. Brandlin originally gave Brown a year in county jail, but gave him credit for good behavior and the 234 days he already spent in jail and in rehab.
Along with the jail sentence, Brown is ordered to attend therapy sessions twice a week to deal with his anger management. He'll also undergo random drug testing three times per week.
TMZ reports, "The judge could have gone a lot harder - 4 years in prison. But Chris got a break because the judge took into account he was recently diagnosed with bipolar disorder, which could account for some of the violence. The judge also ordered Chris to attend therapy sessions with a shrink 2 times a week."
Brown will complete the remainder of his 1,000 hours of community labor once he is released. As of early February, Brown had 800 hours of community labor remaining. The singer was arrested on March 14 for probation violation, after he was kicked out of the residential treatment facility where he'd been living.
He will remain on probation until January of next year, but only if he can stay out of trouble.
In 2009, Brown was arrested after beating then-girlfriend Rihanna hours before the Grammy awards.
