"The View" co-host Sherri Shepherd and her husband of nearly three years, Lamar Sally, are reportedly heading their separate ways.
TMZ reported Sally, who works as a television writer, filed for legal separation on May 2 in Los Angeles Superior Court, citing irreconcilable differences as the reason behind his decision. Shepherd reportedly recently told friends that she and Sally had plans to split.
Shepherd and Sally tied the knot Aug. 13, 2011, in a lavish ceremony at the Fairmont Hotel in Chicago. Although they have no children together, Shepherd and Sally are currently expecting a baby through a surrogate.
"Sherri and Lamar Sally have hired a surrogate who is carrying their baby, and the estimated delivery date is July 28th," sources connected with the couple told TMZ.
According to TMZ, Sally wants legal and physical custody of their surrogate child and is asking for "an order preventing Sherri from interfering with his ability to take the kid with him after the birth." Sally will grant Shepherd visitation rights only, but is asking for spousal support and for their prenuptial agreement to be voided due for reasons of "fraud."
"Their whole relationship was built on a fraud, and it's finally over," alleges a source. "She's thrown him out of the house, and he's tried to speak with her but nothing is happening."
Sally has reportedly retained lawyer Mark Vincent Kaplan, the same attorney who represented Kevin Federline in his divorce from pop singer Britney Spears. Sally recently told RadarOnline that he misses Shepherd's son, Jeffrey.
Neither has commented on the split, but several reports stated that Shepherd has become "lazy" about stepping up and becoming a father figure to her nine-year-old son, Jeffrey - a child born from her first marriage to Jeff Tarpley. The former couple divorced after Shepherd learned of Tarpley's infidelity.
