Larry Wilmore To Replace Stephen Colbert With New Comedy Show 'The Minority Report'

Comic Larry Wilmore has got a new gig.

According to the New York Daily News, Comedy Central announced on Friday that Wilmore, who appeared as the "senior black correspondent" on "The Daily Show" for a few episode will take Stephen Colbert's place on Comedy Central with a new series titled, "The Minority Report."

Colbert will step down at the end of 2014 to host CBS's "Late Show." The comedic host will be replacing David Letterman, who is retiring from the show next year.

"We are thrilled to be expanding our relationship with Jon Stewart and Busboy Productions, and are looking forward to the world getting to know Larry Wilmore even better. He's a spectacular talent in front of and behind the camera," Comedy Central president Michele Ganeless said. "The Minority Report with Larry Wilmore follows in the Comedy Central tradition - bringing new perspectives to the day's events and breaking ground in the world of late night television."

Wilmore's show will air weeknights at 11:30 p.m. - the slot where "The Colbert Show" currently airs - beginning January 2015.

Comedy Central describes the new series as "a comedic look at news, current events and pop culture from unique perspectives not typically on display in late-night television. ... The series will feature a diverse panel of voices currently underrepresented in comedy and television."

"I'm beyond excited to have this chance to continue my relationships with Comedy Central and the brilliant Jon Stewart. I love the city of New York and promise to only wear my Lakers t-shirts when I'm layering," Wilmore said.

The Emmy Award-winning writer has appeared on "The Daily Show" for about eight years. He has also written for "The Fresh Prince of Bel Air," "Jamie Foxx Show" and "In Living Color."

Stewart praised his late-night colleague for his new position, jokingly stating, "While Larry Wilmore is a brilliant comic and show runner, this is all just a complicated ruse to get him to move to New York and turn him into a Knicks fan."
