A man from New Jersey who stabbed his wife to death was captured by authorities in South Carolina on Saturday, Reuters reported.
John Jordan, 47, of Lodi, was arrested and charged with one count of murder and one count of possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose, according to a statement from Bergen County Prosecutor John Molinelli.
Authorities claim Jordan escaped the state after killing his wife and drove down south with his two sons to a relative's house.
On Friday, investigators discovered the body of Tracey Jordan, 39, in their Lodi apartment after her concerned mother called police.
"The victim's mother had intended to pick up the children from school and then had learned the children had been picked up by the father for what was told was a medical appointment," assistant prosecutor John Higgins III told Reuters.
According to New Jersey State Police, the couple was going through a divorce. The two boys were living with their mother in the apartment and John Jordan was living at a seperate address in the same town.
The Federal Bureau of Investigation and local authorities in South Carolina and California set up surveillance since Jordan is known to have relatives in both states, Reuters said.
He was arrested shortly after midnight on Saturday in Greenville, S.C. as he pulled into a relative's home. His two sons were found unharmed in the back seat.
Bail will not be set for Jordan until he is extradited to New Jersey. It is unknown if he has legal represenation yet.
Family members of Tracey Jordan's boyfriend were terrified on Friday night after learning the kids were missing.
"He loved her very, very much," said the boyfriend's sister, Marie Dejulia, told NBCNews.com.
"I don't think he's in the right state of mind," Dejulia said of John Jordan.
