Angelina Jolie and Elle Fanning talk about the contrasts of the "Maleficent" world in the new "Light & Dark" featurette.
"Maleficent has a wicked sense of fun. She enjoys being evil and she revels in it," Jolie said in the featurette. "The world of Maleficent is very dark and yet, at the same time, very elegant and beautiful."
Fanning added she enjoyed playing the iconic character of Aurora and want to embody her while still making her a real person. You can watch the featurette in the video below.
Speaking of Aurora, one of Jolie's youngest daughters, Vivienne, took on the role of the younger version of the Disney princess as she was one of the few children who wasn't afraid of her Maleficent costume.
"We think it's fun for our kids to have cameos and join us on set, but not to be actors. That's not our goal for Brad and I at all," Jolie told Entertainment Weekly. "But the other 3- and 4-year-old [performers] wouldn't come near me. It had to be a child that liked me and wasn't afraid of my horns and my eyes and my claws. So it had to be Viv."
However, Jolie's son Pax wasn't into seeing his mother as Maleficent.
"When Pax saw me for the first time, he ran away and got upset - and I thought he was kidding, so I was pretending to chase him until I actually found him crying," Jolie told EW. "I had to take off pieces [of the makeup] in front of him to show him it was all fake and not freak out so much."
Jolie explained she had to tell her children the real story behind "Maleficent" so they wouldn't be as afraid of her.
"I said, 'Let me tell you the real story but you can't tell anybody,'" she said. "So this was my test too, like any parent. The next day, I heard Shiloh getting into a fight with another kid, defending Maleficent, saying, 'You don't understand her!' They got into a bit of an argument and I thought, that's the reason to do the film."
"Maleficent" will be released to theaters on May 30.
