U.S. Rep. Joe Garcia was caught on camera apparently chowing down on his own earwax during a congressional hearing last week, the New York Daily News reported.
The Florida Democrat was seen on C-SPAN committing the questionable act, prompting a clip to be uploaded to YouTube and unsurprisingly go viral online.
As of Wednesday, the video has been seen over 500,000 times.
However, Garcia didn't seem phased by the incident and told NBC News that it wasn't what it looked like. Instead, he was scratching his ear and noticed a hangnail which he then took care of.
"My mom always told me to keep my fingers out of my mouth, and now I know why. I look forward to immigration reform going viral," he told NBC News.
He also used his Twitter account to make light of the incident.
"Those damn hangnails, they'll get you every time #perceptioniseverything," Garcia tweeted.
Shortly after, he uploaded another sarcastic tweet that said, "Wow, I'm almost trending as much as #JayZ ! #papparazzi."
