Apple Inc. has been reported by 9to5Mac's Mark Gurman to be adding split-screen multitasking to the iPad.
Versions of this feature are included in Samsung's Touchwiz Android Skin and Microsoft Windows 8, according to Gigaom.
The report states that iPad users will be able to run two apps at the same time on both halves of the screen. All of Apple's current available apps can only run individually.
The split-screen feature will also let apps interact with each other. Users will be able to drag and highlight content such as images, texts, or videos, from one window to the other, USA Today reported.
Gurman wrote in the report that the feature will most likely only be released for the 9.7-inch iPad, and that it would only work in landscape mode. It has not been confirmed whether the update will be available for the iPad Mini, which has a 7.9-inch display.
The feature is among many improvements that are being made to the iOS 8, Tech Crunch reported. iOS is set to introduce the Healthbook app, which can work with fitness and medical devices.
The report follows the unveiling of OS Experience, an app that provides jailbroken iPad users a similar form of multitasking.
Apple is set to introduce iOS 8 at its Worldwide Developer Conference (WWDC) in June, The Inquirer reported.
Rumors say that iOS 8 will also introduce an updated version of Apple Maps, iTunes Radio in the U.K. and an iWatch Utility app, which hints at the possibility that the iWatch will arrive not too long after WWDC. Apple has not commented on any of these rumors.
The WWDC will begin with a keynote presentation, according to Apple Insider.
Apple has also been reported to be planning to work with Shazam on building in-song recognition to Siri for iOS 8.
