With the 2014 NBA draft around the corner, many of the teams with coaching vacancies are looking quickly to find their next head coach. Below is a list of teams without a head coach and the candidates they're reportedly looking at.
New York Knicks
Interested In: Steve Kerr.
The Latest: Kerr is the primary target of the Knicks. Most news outlets such as ESPN, the New York Daily News and the New York Post believe Kerr will accept the Knicks' coaching job. Kerr's decision is expected sometime this week.
Golden State Warriors
Interested In: Steve Kerr, Lionel Hollins, George Karl, Tom Thibodeau, Mike D'Antoni
The Latest: Golden State renewed their efforts to hire Kerr, according to ESPN. Hollins is expected to interview with Golden State sometime this week. Karl hasn't yet been interviewed, but he's made it clear he would be interested in coaching the Warriors. The San Francisco Chronicle reported last week that Golden State planned to ask Chicago for permission to interview Thibodeau. D'Antoni is under consideration given that his offensive system could be a great fit for guards Stephen Curry and Klay Thompson.
Los Angeles Lakers
Interested In: John Calipari, Kevin Ollie, Roy Williams, Tom Thibodeau, Mark Jackson.
The Latest: Calipari denied any interest in returning to the NBA, but the Lakers are expected to pursue him anyways. Ollie is expected to visit the team at some point. The Lakers plan to gauge the interest of Williams, the longtime coach of North Carolina, in making the leap to the pros. ESPN reported last week the Lakers would ask Chicago for permission to interview Thibodeau. The recent firing of Jackson from Golden State could also make him a potential candidate.
Cleveland Cavaliers
Interested In: John Calipari, Mark Jackson, Lionel Hollins, Nate McMillan, Mark Price
The Latest: Cleveland has a large list of possible candidates, according to reports from both ESPN and Fox Sports. It's uncertain who the frontrunner is.
Utah Jazz
Interested In: John Stockton
The Latest: ESPN reports Utah plans to gauge Stockton's interest in becoming their next head coach.
