NFL Player Mike Goodson Arrested On Gun And Drug Charges, New York Jets Running Back Held On $50,000 Bail

New Jersey police arrested New York Jets running back Mike Goodson on Friday for weapons and drug possession. Police found Goodson, 25, and a companion drunk in a vehicle along the road. Upon a search of the car, officers found a loaded weapon and drug paraphernalia.

Channel 12 New Jersey reports (via SI):

"Sources say Goodson and a companion were found intoxicated in an SUV along Route 80 in Denville. Authorities have not said why the car was stopped on the highway.

Goodson was being taken to a hospital when authorities discovered marijuana in his possession. Officers searching the SUV also found a loaded 45-caliber handgun.

Both Goodson and his companion, identified as Garrett Evans, were taken to a hospital for an evaluation. They were then released to State Police custody and transported to the Netcong barracks."

Goodson remains incarcerated in the Morris County jail on $50,000 bail.

His litany of charges include possession of marijuana under 50 grams, possession of drug paraphernalia, unlawful possession of a handgun and possession of a hollow-point bullet.

The driver of the vehicle, Evans, faces the same charges in addition to a DWI and possession of a weapon with a prior felony conviction, according to ESPN. He is being held on $150,000 bail.

Friday's incident comes two months after Goodson joined the Jets. He signed a three-year, $6.9 million deal in March with New York and was expected to compete for playing time as a backup. The Jets' start OTAs on Monday.

A spokesperson for the team said they "are aware of the report and are gathering information."

The former 2009 fourth round pick played with the Carolina Panthers from 2009-11 and the Oakland Raiders in 2012. He has 160 carries, 722 rushing yards and three touchdowns in his four-year career.
