Aaron Hernandez Case: Summary Of All Charges & Lawsuits Against Ex-NFL Star

A grand jury indicted former NFL star Aaron Hernandez on Thursday for his alleged role in a 2012 double homicide. Below is a summary of all the indictments and lawsuits against Hernandez.

1. 2012 double homicide in Boston

Hernandez was indicted on two counts of first-degree murder in the 2012 drive-by shooting deaths of Daniel de Abreu and Safiro Furtado. Police believe Hernandez may have been the shooter, according to an affidavit written last year. Investigators found the SUV believed to have been used in the shooting at the home of Hernandez's uncle.

2. 2013 Murder of Odin Lloyd

A grand jury indicted Hernandez in June 2013 for the murder of Odin Lloyd. Hernandez, charged with first-degree murder, is currently being held without bail while awaiting trial.

3. Assault and Battery of fellow inmate

Hernandez was indicted on May 1 on charges of assault and battery, and threats to do bodily harm. The former New England Patriot allegedly committed the crimes while in jail awaiting trial for the murder of Lloyd.

The Bristol County District Attorney's office issued a press release:

"A Bristol County Grand Jury this afternoon indicted Aaron Hernandez on charges stemming from an alleged assault, which occurred inside the Bristol County House of Corrections in Dartmouth on February 25, 2014, and an alleged threat made inside the same facility on November 1, 2013."

4. Wrongful death lawsuit

Ursala Ward, the mother of Lloyd, filed a wrongful death lawsuit against Hernandez in December. Bristol Superior Court Judge Richard T. Moses granted the request of Ward to place a hold on Hernandez's North Attleborough mansion, preventing Hernandez from selling the estate before the lawsuit is resolved.

5. Civil lawsuit filed by man who claims Hernandez shot him in the eye.

Alexander Bradley, an associate of Hernandez who may have also been involved in the 2012 double homicide, filed a lawsuit in June seeking at least $100,000 in damages from Hernandez. The lawsuit contends Hernandez shot Bradley in the eye outside a Miami strip club in February 2013, which led to the loss of vision in Bradley's right eye.

Hernandez pleaded the Fifth Amendment to all of the allegations listed in Bradley's complaint.

MISC: Hernandez is also reportedly under investigation for his possible involvement in an interstate gun running ring.
