Therrell High School in Atlanta was placed on lockdown on Thursday after two teenagers were shot near the school campus, USA TODAY reported.
The lockdown was issued due to a robbery and police chase near the school, according to an Atlanta Public Schools spokesperson. A police report said two teenagers tried to rob a nearby house, prompting the homeowner to open fire.
One teen was shot in the arm and the other one was shot in the leg. Greg Lyon, a spokesman for the Atlanta Police, said the teens drove themselves to a fire station for help.
The names of the teenagers have not been released.
On Tuesday, a student at the high school was arrested after shooting five people close to the campus -- also prompting a lockdown.
Marcellus Brooks, 17, is facing five counts of aggravated assault.
The shooting took place around 4 p.m. and occurred 100 yards away from the school building. Officials with Atlanta Public Schools confirmed each victim was a student at the high school and suffered non-life-threatening injuries.
Witnesses said a group of 30 to 35 people were arguing when someone pulled out a gun, Fox 5 News reported. A motive for the shooting is unknown.
Brooks is currently being held at Fulton County Jail, according to Atlanta Police Officer John Chafee.
Lyon told The AP that Brooks will be charged as an adult.
In addition to the lockdown, administrators announced that backpacks and bags would be prohibited for the rest of the school year.
The chairman of the Fulton County Board of Commissioners called the shootings "particularly upsetting and distressing."
"When our young people are victimized by the crime of our city streets, it serves as a sad reminder of the challenges we as leaders confront in trying to make our streets safer for Fulton County families," Chairman John Eaves said in a statement.
