Jay Z and Solange Knowles are finally addressing the elevator fight that quickly grabbed the world's attention and resulted in endless Internet memes. A video surfaced on May 12 showing the "Losing You" singer physically attacking the rapper. The video, first posted by TMZ, didn't have any audio and left many people wondering, "What happened?"
According to TMZ, Jay and Solange are saying both sides are responsible for what went down inside the elevator at the Standard Hotel on May 5. At the time, the two, along with Beyoncé, were leaving a Met Gala after party.
Several days after the video was leaked, the trio finally released a joint statement: "Jay and Solange each assume their share of responsibility for what has occurred. They both acknowledge their role in this private matter that has played out in the public. They both have apologized to each other and we have moved forward as a united family."
"The reports of Solange being intoxicated or displaying erratic behavior throughout that evening are simply false. At the end of the day families have problems and we're no different," the statement continued. "We love each other and above all we are family. We've put this behind us and hope everyone else will do the same."
The statement did not say what caused the fight. There were rumors that the "Holy Grail" rapper wanted to go to a party with Rihanna instead of going home with Beyoncé. Apparently that didn't sit well with Solange, according to the reports.
Just days after the video was leaked, Solange and Jay Z were spotted shopping at a high-end jewelry store in New York City. A source at the store told TMZ that even though it seemed like the two were on good terms, neither one spoke to each other while shopping.
Reportedly, the rapper and his sister-in-law were in the store for about 20 minutes before leaving without buying anything. The source also told TMZ that neither one tried on any jewelry.
