Nine Inch Nails Names New Bassist After Eric Avery Quits

Trent Reznor and Nine Inch Nails didn't waste any time finding a new bassist, following Eric Avery's departure.

Robin Finck, who toured with the industrial metal group in 2009, will take Avery's place on the new tour, according to Rolling Stone. Finck, who is also a trapeze artist, performed with Guns N' Roses on their 2008 album "Chinese Democracy."

Avery made an announcement on Facebook earlier this week that he was leaving the band to concentrate on his film career. Coming off a recent tour with alternative rockers Garbage, he said he couldn't imagine going on another world tour for a year-and-a-half with Nine Inch Nails.

Avery was announced as part of the Nine Inch Nails lineup in February and has worked with the band in the past. Previous Nine Inch Nails bassists have also included Danny Lohner and Jeordie White. Avery was also an original member of Jane's Addiction, a band he quit and returned to multiple times.

"I just got overwhelmed," Avery said in a statement on his Facebook page regarding his departure from Nine Inch Nails. "I just got home from a year of heavy travel with Garbage, the idea of leaving town for another year and a half, and with all the intensity that Nails demands . . . fortunately my friend Trent understands all this and appreciated my pulling the plug now instead of deep into 2013 and 14."

Nine Inch Nails, lead by Grammy Award-winning Reznor, has dates scheduled through the summer and fall including a number of festival appearances. The band is also slated to appear at Lollapalooza in Chicago and The Voodoo Festival in New Orleans in November. The band's next scheduled tour date is July 26 in Japan at the Fuji Rock Festival.
