The "Godzilla" remake takes a cult classic and gives it more than just a facelift with it's all-star cast.
The film stars Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Elizabeth Olsen, Bryan Cranston, David Strathairn, Ken Watanabe and Juliette Binoche. Check out what reviewers had to say about the classic Japanese film remake below.
Rolling Stone gives the film 2.5 stars out of 4 stars:
"Say this for the big guy: The camera loves him. The new Godzilla, best seen in 3D IMAX to revel in his textured scales, his heaving gills, his deafening digital roar, is a rock star, the effing real deal in FX monster cool. Godzilla has come a long way since he (actually a dude in a rubber suit) starred in the 1954 Japanese original that spawned 27 spin offs, plus comic strips, video games and a titanic turd of a 1998 Hollywood remake. In the last third of this lumbering reboot, the latest Godzilla springs to life and wakes up the wide-eyed kid in all of us."
The Washington Post rates the film with 2.5 stars out of 4 stars as well:
"To be sure, 'Godzilla' is cheesy, cliched and shallow. Though it exploits our fears of environmental calamity, it gives short shrift to any deeper message. As Watanabe's scientist character opines, sagaciously, before resuming his expression of concerned dismay, 'The arrogance of man is thinking nature is in our control, and not the other way around.' That's a thought about as deep as Godzilla swims, when he's cruising, sharklike, through the ocean, his dorsal spikes rising ominously out of the water. Like the movie, they're primitive but effective weapons."
Rotten Tomatoes audience viewers certified the film fresh with an 82 percent rating:
"Gareth Edwards' portrayal of the famed Japanese monster is a pulse-pounding, destructive & fascinating take. The film's effects and nerve-rattling sound, along with a dynamic performance from Bryan Cranston make for a great summer blockbuster as well as a glorious resurrection of the franchise," one audience user wrote.
