A biker who claimed God told him he would be president and a longtime Idaho resident who went to jail for home schooling completely overshadowed Idaho's Republican governor and his Tea Party challenger in a bizarre political debate, Fox News reported.
Standing alongside Gov. Butch Otter and state Sen. Russ Fulcher, the two eccentric candidates talked about their views on social and political issues.
The debate, held in Boise, saw the four candidates that will be running in the Idaho gubernatorial Republican primary on May 20.
According to New York Daily News, the politically incorrect leader of a biker gang, Harley Brown, claimed his fellow riders were "cop magnets, like a Playboy bunny in a mini-skirt gets hit on all the time."
"You have your choice, folks," he said. "A cowboy, a curmudgeon, a biker, or a normal guy. Take your pick." For the record, he thinks Fulcher is the "normal guy."
"I don't like political correctness. Can I say this? It sucks! It's bondage," Brown, who had a cigar firmly placed into his shirt pocket the whole time, told the cameras.
"I'm going for the vote of the real people out there, not these bondage-type who don't have a clue about picking up strangers at night and hauling them God-knows-where," he added.
Apart from discussing anti-abortion views, Walt Bayes insisted the Bible foretold nuclear accidents and urged every citizen to take potassium iodide tablets to protect their thyroid glands.
"He also said he wants to take back the land in Idaho from the federal government. Hammering his family's anti-government credentials, he said his wife drove for three years without a license because she didn't want to take her car for an emissions test," Fox News reported.
Needless to say, their performance broadcast by Idaho Public Television on a 30-second delay has gone viral.
The debate was a throwback to the infamous 2010 debate among New York gubernatorial candidates where the "rent is too damn high" candidate Jimmy McMillan and an adult film star stole the show.
