'Watch Dogs' Release Date: Ubisoft Shatters Pre-Sale Records, Expect To Sell More Than 6 Million Copies

Ubisoft's upcoming title "Watch Dogs" has become the most pre-ordered game of the year.

According to the Ubisoft's official blog, Watch Dogs has gone gold before its May 27 launch for the PS4, Xbox One, PS3, Xbox 360 and PC.

"These strong pre-orders are a clear indication of players' anticipation and excitement for Watch Dogs," Tony Key, senior VP sales and marketing at Ubisoft, said in a statement. "The teams have worked tirelessly to ensure that players will enjoy a top quality game with enormous scope, and we can't wait to get the game into their hands."

IGN reports Ubisoft's CEO Yves Guillemot expects to sell 6.3 million copies of the title this year. The figure is reportedly based on the success of the Ubisoft's debut "Assassin's Creed" title.

"There is massive buzz in all of our stores around Watch Dogs," Senior Vice President of Merchandising at GameStop Bob Puzon said in a statement. "Based on the current level of customer pre-orders we have received, Watch Dogs is the highest pre-ordered next-gen title to date and most pre-ordered new IP of the year."
