Armed Man, Jason James Burr, Shot By Police In Utah Hospital

A gunman was shot by police officers at a Utah hopsital after trying to enter the emergency room on Friday morning, KUTV reported.

According to authorities, Jason James Burr, 34, entered Cache Valley Hospital in Logan with two guns and began making demands.

Because a parolee was at the hospital, two Adult Probation and Parole Agents were already there and responded to the scene.

As more law enforcement officials arrived, Burr was shot at four times and transported to a Salt Lake City hospital where he was listed in critical condition.

It is unknown what specific demands Burr was making in the emergency room and authorities are unsure of a motive.

No one else was inured in the shooting.

Following the shooting, the hospital and nearby Greenville Elementary School were placed on lockdown. While the hospital eventually reopened, the emergency room remains on divert. The lockdown at the school has also been lifted.

Authorities said there is no longer a threat to the hospital or school, according to KUTV.

Following protcol, all officers directly involved in the shooting have been placed on administrative leave as the investigation continues.

In August 2010, Burr pleaded guilty to falsely obtaining and dispensing prescription drugs, according to online court records. He was sentenced to 30 days in jail and put on three years of probation.
