Authorities in Minnesota executed a search warrant at the home of a teenage girl who disappeared 25 years ago, according to the Minneapolis Star-Tribune.
Maple Grove Police Captain Keith Terlinden said investigators began their search on Sunday morning where 13-year-old Amy Sue Pagnac used to live.
In 1989, Amy disappeared after stopping at a gas station in Osseo. Her stepfather said he went inside to use the bathroom and came back to find the girl missing.
Futher details were not disclosed on the investigation and Terlinden would not say if the parents, Susan Pagnac Sr. and Marshall Midden, are suspects. He also did not explain what prompted the search.
Jill Reichel, one of the family's neighbors, told reporters that officials began digging in their backyard.
Though Midden declined to comment, Amy's mother said it is "wonderful" that police are continuing their search.
"I have been trying to get law enforcement to do things for 25 years now, and having the fact that they're going to do something, even if it doesn't make much sense to me, is wonderful," Pagnac told the Star-Tribune. "I just gave them permission to do whatever they wanted to do, so I don't know what's going on."
On the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension website, officials claim Amy "may have had a seizure and been disoriented" -- something her mother believes might be true.
"I don't know if anybody saw Amy at the gas station," Pagnac added. "I'm not aware of them telling me anybody saw her."
Amy's sister, Susan Pagnac Jr., was 8-years-old at the time of her disappearance.
"I don't know what to tell you," she said of the new search. "I'm sad that the only thing they can do is look at the family."
