Shooting Suspect, Jim Johnson, Arrested In Death Of Aspiring Rap Artist

Las Vegas Police arrested a man on Sunday suspected in the recent shooting death of an aspiring rap artist, the Las Vegas Review-Journal reported.

Jim Johnson, 25, was booked into Clark County Detention Center just three days after Evan Plunkett was found dead.

On Thursday, authorities responded to a 911 call around 9:30 p.m. to the Fantasy Tower in the Palms. When officers arrived, they found Plunkett suffering from a gunshot wound to the chest.

Plunkett, who was also an ex-Marine, was rushed to University Medical Center where he was later pronounced dead, according to the Review-Journal.

Investigators said the incident happened during a party with about 50 attendees and believe Plunkett got in an argument with three other men before getting shot. However, the three men had fled the scene by the time police arrived.

"There was an altercation. He was trying to get everybody to stop fighting. Apparently, he took a shot to the chest," Barbara Combs, a friend of Plunkett's mother, told KVVU-TV.

Additionally, the rapper's brother was injured while trying to pull Plunket out of the altercation, Combs said.

Further details on the investigation were not immediately available and it is unknown how police were lead to Johnson.

After the shooting, the Palms released a brief statement on the shooting.

"We are saddened by this unfortunate, isolated incident and our thoughts are with the victim's family and friends," the statement said. "The safety and security of our guests and team members are always our No. 1 priority."

Johnson is scheduled to make his first court appearance on Tuesday morning and is being held without bail on first-degree murder charges. It is unknown if he has an attorney.
