Sony Playstation Now Streaming: Game Service Enters Private Beta Tests

Select gamers can test Sony's new PlayStation Now live streaming service Tuesday, through the company's private beta program.

Registered gamers who have already signed up for the service will receive a voucher in their e-mail account inviting them to experiment with the technology.

According to GameSpot, this is not the first trial period for the service - Sony previously evaluated its features in the PlayStation 3 game console.

Sony USA's director of strategic planning told Morning News USA the game company's test program has grown significantly over the years.

"The Private Beta program has been going great so far, and we want to give thanks to the testers that have participated - your valuable feedback is helping us make the service even better," Peter Jamshidi said. "Thus far, Private Beta testers have logged more than 50,000 gameplay hours discovering new games, rediscovering favorites and racking up trophies!"

Sony employees introduced PlayStation Now at the Consumers Electronics Show in January via Bravia televisions and one of the game console's DualShock 3 controller according to Morning News USA.

The technology is also compatible with games such as "The Last of Us", "God of War", "Ascension", "Puppeteer" and "Beyond Two Souls".

"PS Now gives you the freedom to play select PlayStation 3 games like you already stream movies, TV, shows, and music - directly to your favorite PS Now compatible devices without any discs or downloads," Jamshidi told PlayStation Universe. "The first supported devices launching in 2014 are PS4, PS3, select 2014 Bravia TVs, and PlayStation Vita, with more devices down the road."

According to CNET, Sony began a beta evaluation version of the Now system in January. The company expects to launch the service this summer in the United States. No details have emerged about Europe yet.

The service works with televisions, phones, and tablet computers. Consumers can also test their ability in PlayStation 2 and PlayStation 4 games online.
