Facebook Wants Users To Be More Open About Their Relationship Status

Facebook has rolled out a new "Ask" feature that lets users question others if they are single.

Facebook, the world's largest social networking site, has added a new function that gives an option for other users to know your relationship status. The new button called "Ask," appears right next to the relationship status on the Facebook page, if the user has opted to keep it blank or hidden. If you have been in two minds about asking your crush about his or her relationship status, Facebook has gifted a streamlined process that can save you the trouble of sending a message without offending the person or appearing desperate.

Facebook has been rolling out its "Ask" feature for the last few months and is not limited to just a blank relationship status. Any personal information a Facebook user has left blank will get a new "ask" button, which includes a Facebook friend's phone number, "Work," "Current City" and even "Hometown", reports Huffington Post .

All you need to do is ask.

When a user clicks the "Ask" button, a small window appears asking for a mandatory note that can explain the reason for your inquisitiveness. But users can rest assured that they wil not be bombarded with such requests as the function is limited to only Facebook friends, Daily Dot reports. So be sure to choose wisely. The addition of Ask button for all profiles is standard and there is no privacy setting that can hide it.

The inclusion of Ask on profile pages has not generated much enthusiasm. The new feature has received mixed reactions with some criticizing the move while others seeing it as an opportunity to get to know others. Facebook users are still in control about sharing the information, just like a user controls whether a friend request is accepted or not.
