‘The Shield’ Actor Michael Jace Charged with Wife’s Death

Actor Michael Jace, who played a Los Angeles cop in the popular TV show 'The Shield,' was charged for shooting dead his wife, authorities said Tuesday.

Police found 40-year-old April Jace dead around 8:30 p.m. Monday in her south Los Angeles home. Following the incident, the police detained 48-year-old Jace at the couple's Hyde Park area home Monday night and charged him with homicide, police Detective Lyman Doster said, reports CNN.

Investigators are not sure what led to the fatal shooting and said the probe is on.

The couple was married for 9 years. They have two sons, both below the age of 10. The children were at the home at the time of the shooting. However, the Los Angeles Police Department did not reveal whether the children witnessed the murder, reports E! Online.

This was Jace's second marriage. He was previously married to Jennifer Bitterman. They divorced in 2002, reports the New York Daily News.

According to the initial reports, the couple got into argument prior to the shooting. "It looks to have started as a domestic-related incident," Officer Sara Faden told The Los Angeles Times.

Jace then called 911 and reportedly said, "I shot my wife," reports TMZ.

Jace played Los Angeles Police Officer Julien Lowe from 2002 to 2008 in the crime drama 'The Shield.' He also acted in movies such as 'Planet of the Apes,' 'Forrest Gump' and 'Boogie Nights.' He played the title role of Michael Jordan in the 1999 TV movie about the NBA star, 'Michael Jordan: An American Hero.'
