Man Killed, Woman Injured In Maryland Hostage Standoff

Authorities announced on Tuesday that a man was killed and a woman was injured in a standoff in Maryland, according to The Baltimore Sun.

The incident occurred after the man began holding his wife hostage around 10 p.m. Monday in an SUV near Cedar Lane Regional Park in Bel Air.

The woman's mother reported her 28-year-old daughter missing around 8:30 p.m., prompting officials to begin an investigation.

Shots were heard at the scene around 9 a.m. Tuesday. A Medvac helicopter landed and a bomb squad arrived at the park shortly after.

Aaron Stewart, a spokesman for the Harford County Sheriff's Office, confirmed that the suspect died and the woman was being flown to the University of Maryland Shock Trauma Center in Baltimore. He did not provide further details, the Sun said.

By 10:15 a.m. Tuesday, the 37-year-old man was not identified by police. The woman's name has not been released either.

Officials said the woman previously called someone on her cell phone, saying her husband wanted her to say "goodbye" to his relatives on her behalf.
