Samsung Group has announced the development of a video-on-demand streaming app called Project Glued.
The announcement shows the South Korean electronics company's interest in entering the content market in Southeast Asia, according to CNET.
Users will be able to rent an entire season of TV shows of their choosing.
The first episodes of TV shows will be offered for free, The Straits Times reported.
Users will be able to rent entire seasons for 30 days, at a price of $6.50 per season.
Customers will also be able to gift seasons to friends, and can share up to six seasons with them over a period of 24 hours, CNET reported.
Samsung's new app was developed by its Singapore-based Media Solutions Center. It is scheduled to debut between July and September, and will launch in Singapore and the Philippines first.
By choosing these two countries, which are primarily English-speaking countries, to release Project Glued, Samsung may be looking to use westernized tastes to attract early customers, CNET reported.
Southeast Asia, unlike other areas, is made up of different countries with distinctive cultures and languages.
The company did not say how many shows will be available on the app, The Straits Times reported. However, it did say that majority of shows would come from the U.S. and the U.K.
The company is also considering adding Asian content to the app.
Project Glued will debut initially as a mobile app for Samsung Galaxy phones and tablets, The Straits Times reported.
Samsung is currently working on a Web-version of Project Glued that customers can access on any computer. The company is also working on a version for Samsung TV sets.
