Child Porn Investigation Leads To Dozens Of Arrests Including Rabbi, Police Officer

Dozens of men and one woman were arrested in a child pornography investigation in New York City, ABC News reported.

Federal authorities announced the 70 arrests on Wednesday. Among the accused include a police officer, rabbi, boy scout leader, and more trusted leaders in the greater metro area.

The five-week investigation tracked individuals who used file-sharing to exchange videos and photos of child pornography. Officials seized hard drives and other devices that are expected to lead to even more suspects and arrests.

The sole woman arrested in the case is accused of forcing her child into child pornography.

According to PIX 11 News, Immigration and Customs Agents led the investigation and plan to announce further details on the arrest later Wednesday.

Analysts from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children will review the images to see whether it can identify children using databases of reported victims.

"We refer to each of these images as a crime scene photo because that's exactly what they are," John Ryan, the organization's chief executive officer, told the New York Daily News.

Investigators decided to pursue the investigation after the arrest of a former police chief in Mount Pleasant, Brian Fanelli, who recently pleaded not guilty to charges alleging he knowingly shared child pornography online.

Fanelli told authorities that he initially began researching child porn for work before it turned into a "personal interest," the Daily News said.
