Massachusetts Man, Ricky Allende, Smokes Pot During Traffic Stop

A man in Massachusetts was allegedly smoking marijuana during a routine traffic stop on Tuesday, ABC News reported.

According to Springfield Police Sgt. John Delaney, officers were performing the stops as part of their "Click It or Ticket" campaign when they noticed a car drive through a stop sign.

After he was pulled over, the driver -- who was also not wearing a seat belt -- rolled down his window and "the officer was covered in a plume of smoke," Delaney said.

The motorist, identified as 30-year-old Ricky Allende, is accused of smoking while driving and during the traffic stop.

Delaney said an officer asked Allende "Are you smoking marijuana while operating a motor vehicle?" to which Allende responded "Why, yes, I am, officer."

He was then arrested and charged with operating a motor vehicle while under the influence of marijuana, failure to stop at a stop sign, and failure to wear a seat belt.

Additionally, officers wrote a citation for possession of marijuana of one ounce and under.

"High and stupid is no way to go through life," Delaney told CBS News.

Allende is scheduled for arraignment in Springfield District Court on Wednesday.
