The New York Yankees play the Chicago Cubs on Wednesday. The game begins at 2:20 p.m. ET. Listen to the radio broadcast below.
Chicago routed New York on Tuesday, 6-1. Yankees starting pitcher Masahiro Tanaka took his first loss in the majors after giving up three earned runs, snapping his six-game winning streak.
"I think I was able to get the streak going because I had support from my teammates," Tanaka told the Associated Press through a translator. "I'm a little bit disappointed because I think a lot of the fans were looking for me to keep on winning. Next time out, I'll try to get a win again and get it going."
Yankees manager Joe Girardi, though, wasn't concerned about Tanaka's pitching.
"If he has his good splitter tonight I think he gives a much better performance," Girardi said. "Since it's the first time that he saw a team twice and they scored four runs, people are probably going to make a big deal out of it, but I think he's given up four runs before in a start. So I wouldn't make too much of it."
While the Yankees' offense was anemic, Cubs third baseman Mike Olt accounted for three RBIs. Cubs starting pitcher Josh Hammel, who opposed Tanaka allowed just one run on four hits.
Jeff Samardzija (0-4, 1.62 ERA) starts on Wednesday. He's still looking for his first win of the season, despite boasting the lowest ERAs in the league. The lack of run support has been the story all season for him, but the right-hander refused to throw his teammates under the bus.
"Obviously I want to win," Samardzija said. "Being a starting pitcher, you have a big say as to how the game turns out. Obviously if my record isn't what I want it to be I need to do a better job."
Opposing Samardzija will be Yankees pitcher Chase Whitley (0-0, 0.0), who's making just his second career start.
