Blue Angels Pilot Takes Epic Selfie While Flying 'Upside Down'

A Blue Angels pilot took social media by storm on Tuesday when he took a selfie while flying in a backwards position over the U.S. Naval Academy in Annapolis, Maryland.

Blue Angles pilot Nate Barton tweeted the 'upside down' selfie from his cellphone while inside a fighter jet in anticipation of the academy's free air show on Wednesday, WLTX reported.

"#Blue Angels are ready to fire it up over @NavalAcademy #upsidedown!" the lieutenant commander tweeted.

The selfie has since received over a thousand retweets, with one twitter user naming it the "selfie of the century."

"There are #selfies and then there are #BlueAngelSelfies," Ben Chorlton tweeted.

"#BlueAngels My house is in view over your right shoulder!" Kristofer Womack tweeted.

The academy's Marine Corps Memorial Stadium can be seen way below the pilot's head, which appears to be suspended in mid-air. The academy is currently celebrating Commencement Week, during which thousands of family members arrive to celebrate the Naval Academy's Graduation ceremony on Friday, CBS Baltimore reported.

The Navy's Blue Angels, returning for the first time in three years, are set to perform an air show at the graduation. The show will include Barton, who has flown in several air shows in the Left Wing position. Barton has been flying in the Navy's Flight Demonstration Squadron since 2012, WLTX reported.

Annapolis businesses, which rake in $2 million a week from visitors, expect to see a boost in sales during commencement week, according to CBS Baltimore.
