U.S. Sen. Debbie Stabenow Endorses Hillary Clinton For President In 2016

In a column published on Thursday, U.S. Sen. Debbie Stabenow expressed her support for former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton in the next presidential election, according to POLITICO.

"We need President Hillary Clinton," Stabenow said on CNN's website. "That's why I am honored to formally announce my renewed and unreserved support for Clinton as she considers a 2016 presidential bid."

Stabenow, a Democrat from Michigan, also endorsed Clinton in the 2008 election.

"I'm ready for Clinton because she is the best person to take on the challenges that face our country, and she has more than enough qualifications, achievements and experience to do the job," Stabenow said in the post. "As president, Hillary Clinton will fight for our values day in and day out. I also know Clinton is practical and pragmatic. She understands how to get things done."

The senator continued, "When America chooses its next president, we need someone who understands that people across this country are working hard and just want a fair shot to get ahead in life. I know that Clinton understands this because that's the America she has been fighting for all her life. That is why I am ready for Hillary Clinton - and why America is, too."

Though Clinton has yet to announce a bid, several other lawmakers like U.S. Senators Claire McCaskill, Time Kaine, and Chuck Schumer have already come out to endorse her.

Additionally, U.S. Ambassador to Japan Caroline Kennedy and ex-Army General David Petraeus said she would make a "great" and "tremendous" president.

Stabenow is not the only Michigan legislator to commit her support to Clinton. In January, ex-Michigan Gov. Jennifer Granholm announced she would begin working with a pro-Hillary superPAC -- Priorities USA Action.
