A defrocked priest who previously pleaded guilty to sexual abuse charges seven years ago was hit with a new charge in Illinois on Wednesday, according to NBC News.
Daniel McCormack, 45, was arrested in connection to a case that occurred in 2005 involving a 10-year-old boy, Cook County Attorney spokeswoman Sally Daley said.
The former priest is scheduled for an appearance in bond court on Thursday, where further details on the investigation are expected to be released.
Since leaving his position at St. Agatha's Parish in North Lawndale, McCormack has been staying in a mental health institution.
In 2007, he pleaded guilty to sexually abusing five children. He was then sentenced to five years in jail and removed from the priesthood.
The Archdiocese of Chicago announced a $1.68 to $2.1 million lawsuit settlement in March involving a Catholic school student who alleged McCormack abused them.
However, the archdiocese said they had no information of McCormack's recent arrest.
"When we hear that he is being prosecuted again, and inevitably incarcerated perhaps for life. It gives us some comfort to us and those whose lives who have been shattered and torn," said Jeff Anderson, an attorney for one of McCormack's victims, Darryl McArthur.
Anderson said he is content with McCormack's arrest and hopes to remain involved in prosecuting his cases.
"We have the deposition of Cardinal George coming up shortly where we will be examining him about his handling or mishandling of McCormack," Anderson told ABC News.
