Paul McCartney has canceled a series of concerts overseas, after being hospitalized with an infection.
According to the Associated Press, the former Beatle came down with a viral infection that caused him to cancel his Japan tour and South Korea concerts. A spokesman for McCartney said Thursday that doctors have ordered him to take time and rest.
"It has been confirmed that Paul will no longer play Seoul on Wednesday 28th which would have been his first-ever concert in South Korea," a statement from his publicist said.
According to the Japanese newspaper Sankei Sports, the British musician was admitted to a hospital in Tokyo after his condition worsened. McCartney's health issues caused him to miss four of his scheduled concerts in Japan, including two in Tokyo.
Fans have been gathering outside the hospital with get well signs for the singer. In a statement to fans on his website, McCartney thanked them for their well wishes.
"Thank you so much for your kind messages of support. I'm so very touched. Unfortunately my condition has not improved overnight. I was really hoping that I'd be feeling better today. I'm so disappointed and sorry to be letting my fans down," McCartney stated.
In a second statement he added: "I'd like to thank my Japanese fans for their love, messages of support and understanding. I hope to see you all again soon. Love, Paul."
McCartney was scheduled to perform at Seoul stadium on May 28. Beginning June 14, McCartney is scheduled to take his act to the U.S., performing in several venues over a two-month span.
