A 14-year-old middle school student in Florida was arrested after allegedly putting hand sanitizer in his teacher's water, WKMG-TV reported.
The incident occurred on Tuesday after the teacher, Ana Morejon, stepped outside of the classroom at Crystal Lake Middle School. When she returned to her desk, she took a sip of her drink and noticed it had an odd taste. When Morejon took off the lid off of her cup, she smelled hand sanitizer inside, authorities said.
After experiencing a headache and stomach ache, Morejon went to Bartow Regional Medical Center to be evaluated.
According to the Polk County Sheriff's Office, two students told officers that they saw the boy put the sanitizer in their teacher's drink. Shortly after, the student was arrested on a charge of poisoning water with intent to kill or injure and was transported to the Polk Juvenile Assessment Center.
The name of the student has not been released.
On Monday, two students in New York City were arrested after allegedly putting rat poison in their teacher's water.
The 51-year-old educator went to police and told them the incident may have happened during class at P.S. 315 in Brooklyn. According to officials, other students in the class said they saw the two boys put something in her water.
Following an investigation, a 9-year-old boy and 12-year-old boy were arrested and face charges of attempted assault, criminal possession of a weapon, and reckless endangerment.
NYPD Commissioner William. J. Bratton told The New York Times that a "small amount" of rat poisoning was placed into the water bottle by the students.
"My understanding is the 9-year-old wanted to see what the reaction would be," Bratton said. "God knows where kids get these ideas."
The names of the students and teacher have not been released.
