Xbox One to See International Expansion and New Features in June

Microsoft Corp. announced Wednesday that Xbox One will receive a system update in June.

A variety of new features will be implemented in the console, such as support for external storage and the option for users to identify themselves on Xbox Live with their real-world names, according to CNET.

No specific details have been revealed about when the update will arrive.

The update will come to Xbox One users in the U.S., the U.K., Canada, France, Germany, Spain and Italy, The Verge reported.

Users in these countries will have access to many Xbox One TV features, such as OneGuide, the console's TV guide app. Kinect voice commands will allow users to control set-top boxes that are plugged into the console's HDMI port. While these features were available to select users in Europe and Canada before Wednesday's announcement, they were only available in beta form.

The support for external storage lets consumers use a USB 3.0 hard drive to save games and other content when the Xbox is full. Users will have direct access to games on the hard drive, which allows them to play digital games on someone else's console without having to re-download them, The Verge reported.

New sharing options will be featured in the Xbox Live friends lists, including options that allow users to share things with select groups of people exclusively.

If users bought the content digitally, they will have to sign in to Xbox Live or insert a disc to confirm that they bought the game, CNET reported.

Microsoft said the hard drive is a "great way" for users to play their games at their friends' houses.

The new features are not the only updates that the Xbox One will receive in June, The Verge reported - starting next month, the Xbox Live Gold subscription will be available to provide users with Netflix and other streaming apps.

The Kinect-free Xbox One will be available on June 9th for $399, making Microsoft's console cheaper.
