Samsung is bringing back the old fashioned flip phones to its home market in South Korea under a new brand series called "Samsung Master."
Samsung, the biggest smartphone maker, is not done experimenting with new as well as old things. The company is breathing new life into flip style phones with its Master series for the Korean market. With its new additions Samsung is targeting the middle and older generations who still show an interest in the old-fashioned look for mobile phones.
Samsung Master was announced via the company's official Flickr account, which slipped in a few tidbits about the new flip phone. The phone will support both 2G and 3G networks. The Master phone will feature a 3-inch, 240 x 320-pixel resolution display with an alphanumeric keypad, FM Radio, 3.5mm earphone and a 3-megapixel camera. To bridge the gap between the old fashioned folder style phone and the current generation smartphones, Samsung has added some of its own specs.
The Master phone features few advanced functions and a traditional faux leather styling. Fake stitched leather borders the keypad and is also seen on the outside. As for its unique features, Samsung has integrated a pedometer, like in the Galaxy S5, to count the steps a user has taken on a daily basis.
Samsung Master boasts a "Loud" mode to increase the volume of the speaker and an emergency mode to help users send a message to a preset list of numbers. A notification will also be sent to a preset recipient in case the phone hasn't been used for a certain amount of time, Phone Arena reports. The new flip phone is supported by a 1,000mAh battery, which will last long due to its non-smartphone operations.
Idle notifications and loud mode justify Samsung's targeted audience.
Samsung Master will be available in three colors, Metallic Silver, Montblanc Black and Red Wine for around $240 (240,000 Won) in South Korea. Availability of the handset outside its home country is highly doubtful.
