At least 11 people were injured in a New York City school bus on Tuesday after smoke formed, according to The New York Daily News.
The bus came to a halting stop around 7 a.m. as it drove through Kensington, headed to Brooklyn Dreams Charter School. More than 40 students were on the bus at the time.
An 11-year-old passenger, Amari Bhola, said the driver pulled over and called for help after noticing the green smoke. First responders arrived and transported 11 victims to the hospital, all of whom are expected to recover.
The boy said children were screaming "Who did this, and why would you do this?"
"People kept saying they couldn't breathe that well," he added.
Dario Gonzalez, associate medical director of the FDNY, said the children transported to the hospital complained of asthma, teary eyes, and shortness of breath. Additionally, five other students were treated at the scene.
There are varying accounts of what was actually set off on the school bus. Some sources claim it was a result of fireworks while others say it was a smoke bomb.
