Karl Rove Claims Hillary Clinton Is Seen As 'Old And Stale'

Former Bush advisor Karl Rove said on Monday that Hillary Clinton's biggest challenge in possibly running for president would be that she is seen as "old and stale," according to POLITICO.

"Hillary may have the impression in people's minds that she's both the third term of Barack Obama ... and a third term for Bill Clinton, which is now 20 years in the rearview mirror," Rove told Fox News.

He also claimed that voters want to see a tough candidate and doesn't believe Clinton fits that role well.

"People don't like people who have it sort of already made, they want to see a scrapper, they want to see a fighter," Rove said. "And if it looks like you are the candidate, then people tend to pick at your faults and tend to look at alternatives."

Additionally, any sort of reference to when her husband was president portrays the former Secretary of State as "stale."

"In American politics, there's a sense you want to be new, you don't want to be too familiar, you want to be something fresh, you don't want to be something old and stale," he said.

However, Rove acknowledged Clinton remains as the GOP's biggest threat in 2016 if she decides to run.

"On the other hand, she's in a much more vulnerable position in a general election," he added. "It's easier to make the case that this is the case of Democrats representing yesterday, let's go back to the early '90s, versus somebody who's focused on tomorrow, a Republican with a constructive conservative agenda with the future."

Rove's "old and stale" comments come a few weeks after he received backlash for suggesting Clinton suffered from "traumatic brain injury."

"Thirty days in the hospital?" Rove asked the crowd at a conference in California, referring to a fall she suffered in 2012. "And when she reappears, she's wearing glasses that are only for people who have traumatic brain injury? We need to know what's up with that."

Clinton spent time in New York Presbyterian Hospital for a potentially life-threatening blood clot but was released after three days, the New York Post said.

"Karl Rove has deceived the country for years, but there are no words for this level of lying," a Clinton spokesperson said. "She is 100 percent. Period."
