New York took a commanding 3-1 lead in the series with a win on Sunday. Rangers winger Martin St. Louis scored the game-winning goal in overtime, giving New York a 3-2 win over Montreal.

"I just got open," St. Louis told the Associated Press. "I tried to trust my instincts. I hit some good shots; (Candiens goaltender Dustin Tokarski) made some good saves. I was fortunate this one got by him. ...

"It's a big difference up 3-1 instead of 2-2 going back to Montreal. We were obviously disappointed with the result last game. We thought we played a good game. That's just hockey. Tonight we are on a good end, and it's a big plus."

Rangers goaltender Henrik Lundqvist made 27 saves, and Carl Hagelin and Derick Brassard scored the team's other two goals.

Montreal now faces elimination. Despite their season being on the line, the Canadiens seem confident they can force a sixth game.

"By no means are we counting ourselves out," Canadiens captain Brian Gionta said. "It's a tough loss, it's a bitter loss, but at the end of the day, we are still in this series. I still like our chances with two games at home."

Tokarski made 26 saves, and Francis Bouillon and P.K. Sabban each scored for the Canadiens.
