The manager of a Texas bar was fired after writing a sign that poked fun at domestic violence, according to The Dallas Morning News.
On Saturday, Courtney Williams, 24, arrived at Scruffy Duffies in Plano when she noticed a beer sign that read "I like my beer like I like my violence -- domestic."
After approaching the bar's owners about the sign, she posted an image of it on Facebook with a post detailing their negative response to her complaints.
"When I told him it was in extremely poor taste and that I'd appreciate it being taken down, he told me to calm down, and that if I hadn't been so 'aggressive' the conversation would go better," Williams said.
Despite their initial response, Williams was not ready to give up her fight.
"I'm not going to be in a bar like this that's willing to make these kinds of jokes," she added, mentioning she had friends who were victims of domestic violence. "It's just not OK."
The sign, which was eventually erased and led to the manager's firing, was shared hundreds of times on social media.
Brian Harder, president of Harder Concepts -- which owns Scruffy Duffies -- apologized for the incident in a statement.
"This was an isolated event executed by an employee that made a bad decision followed by a manager that did not recognize and fix the problem. ... We will ensure that something like this will never happen again," Harder said.
The bar also uploaded a statement on their Facebook page.
"It has come to our attention that one of our female employees wrote something offensive without owner's approval. Domestic violence is something our family unfortunately has overcome in the past, therefore this subject is one we don't take lightly. We are currently investigating the situation and proper actions will be taken immediately. We thank you for your patience and again want to ensure this is not our stance," the statement read.
