Virginia Couple Convicted For Caging Daughter Faces New Charges

A couple in Virginia sentenced to prison for 30 years after authorities found their six-year-old daughter locked in a cage in 2011 are facing new charges, WTKR-TV reported.

Brian and Shannon Gore will both face one count of felony child neglect and one count of felony homicide in relation to the death of their seven-month-old son, according to Gloucester County officials.

The couple claimed their son died unexpectedly in March 2008, though investigators recently discovered his bones buried underneath a shed behind their mobile home.

Earlier in May, a grand jury met and was presented with evidence that supported the additional charges.

"The Grand Jury for Gloucester met on May 5, 2014 and was presented evidence in support of the charges," Commonwealth's Attorney Holly Smith said in a statement. "The charges are a result of additional information received about the remains of the child found buried under the shed."

A trial date has not been scheduled yet.

Both Gores are serving 10 years in prison for child abuse and 20 years for malicious wounding. In 2011, authorities investigating a report of a burglary led to the discovery of their daughter held inside of an upside down crib.

Their daughter weighed only 15 pounds and was covered in her own feces when officials found her. She was also unable to walk.

"Your daughter looks like somebody in a Nazi death camp," Judge Bruce Long said in court last year. "I ask myself, as do your attorneys, 'how can one human being do this to another?'"
