'Community' Series Revived By Hulu? Online Streaming Service Reportedly In Talks To Takeover Cancelled NBC Show

“Community” fans may get to see their favorite comedy online as Hulu is in talks to revive the show, Deadline reports.

Sources claim Hulu and “Community” producer Sony Pictures TV are in early stages of negotiations about the show and have not worked out a deal. The show’s creator Dan Harmon is open to seeing the series online despite his previous hesitation, according to Deadline.

“Community is the type of show digital platforms crave. Complicating the series’ options is the fact that it has a digital syndication deal in place with Hulu, in addition to a cable off-network pact with Comedy Central,” Deadline reports. “That makes Hulu a perfect home for the comedy as it is the kind of streaming service where a show like Community would do best and because it already carries the series’ library via an existing agreement with Sony.”

Harmon spoke about the cancellation during a recording of his documentary called “Harmontown” in Wisconsin, according to TV.com.

"I was on my way to LAX, and somebody from Sony called me," Harmon told the crowd and his co-host Jeff Bryan Davis. "Listen I—the fans of that show have more reason to be upset than I do. I can go create another show. And also I got paaaid. The people that are most devastated are people that put unpaid labor into the show. Like, 'I'm hash-tagging this, I'm getting a tattoo of this, I love this show,' they didn't get compensated for it. They had a relationship with the show."

"It'll take weeks to sink in," Harmon later added.

“Community” starred Joel McHale, Gillian Jacobs, Alison Brie, Donald Glover, Yvette Nicole Brown, Danny Pudi, Chevy Chase, Ken Jeong and Jim Rash. There is no word as to whether all members of the original cast will return to the series if revived by Hulu.
