North Carolina Teen Brutally Beaten By Boyfriend Angered Over Tangled Fishing Lines

A teenager in North Carolina was brutally beaten by her boyfriend on Friday after he became angry over tangled fishing lines and text messages, according to Fox News.

Hannah Connaway, 17, underwent emergency brain surgery after Michael Hutton, 18, attacked her. By Wednesday, the teen was listed in stable condition and her boyfriend was charged with attempted first-degree murder, among other charges.

"He was angry because he couldn't untangle fishing lines," Claudene Williams, who said she was with the couple during the argument, told WECT-TV. Williams added Hutton was upset over Connaway's "snarky" remarks.

"I keep on hearing her screaming and I keep on hearing all the sounds and it's just awful. I ran around the front door. I tried to get in. All the doors were locked. It was just awful," Williams said.

The fight occurred at Hutton's home in Wilmington and ended in the front yard. According to WECT-TV, his parents were gone for the weekend.

Hutton's lawyer claims his client suffers from alcohol-induced seizures, which could have set him off during the time of the fight.

Bail was set for Hutton at $1 million, Fox News said.

A GoFundMe page was set up to pay for Connaway's medical expenses, which has already raised $8,965 - just $1,035 short of their $10,000 goal.

In light of the #YesAllWomen hash tag on social media websites following the shooting at University of California at Santa Barbara, many people took to Twitter after hearing of Connaway's condition.

"#YesAllWomen because stories like Hannah Connaway happen all the time and it needs to stop. Read and help her," one user tweeted with a link to her fundraising page.

"#YesAllWomen because I didn't know Hannah Connaway and probably never will but I'll defend her and support her until her case has justice," another person said.
