British singer George Michael is reportedly home resting after being discharged from the hospital earlier in the week.
According to the Associated Press, the "Faith" singer was reportedly rushed to the hospital last week after falling ill and collapsing in his Highgate, North London home. The 50-year-old was taken to hospital by ambulance after receiving a frantic call from Michael's unnamed friend at around 8 a.m.
"We were called just before 8 a.m. (London time)," an ambulance service spokesman told The Mirror. "We sent two ambulance crews and staff treated a man, who was taken to hospital."
Paramedics reportedly spent four hours assisting Michael before transporting him to the hospital for further treatment. It is not clear what caused the singer to collapse. Michael's management has refused to comment on the situation, but released a statement saying "George Michael was in hospital for routine tests."
A second statement released Thursday read: "In response to newspaper reports today we can confirm George was admitted to hospital on 22nd May. He was discharged last weekend and is well and resting. He is very much looking forward to the release of his new single in July. Given the personal nature of this matter, there will be no further comment."
Michael has a history of battling depression and drug addiction. In 2011, the singer nearly died of threatening pneumonia while on tour in Austria and in 2012, Michael was hospitalized after falling from a moving car on a highway in England.
In 2010, Michael was imprisoned for eight weeks for possessing marijuana and driving under the influence of drugs, which led him to crash his Range Rover into a shop. After pleading guilty to charges against him, he was banned from driving for five years.
Michael's sixth solo album, "Symphonica," was released earlier this year.
