While many fans thought Scott Weiland could not be replaced, Stone Temple Pilots are not as doubtful.
The group has recruited Linkin Park frontman Chester Bennington for a new single "Out of Time." The rocker also performed with the band at KROQ's Weenie Roast over the weekend in Los Angeles, opening with "Vasoline" and performed hits including "Big Bang Baby," "Wicked Garden," "Sex Type Thing," "Interstate Love Song," "Trippin' On A Hole In A Paper Heart" and "Dead and Bloated."
The Linkin Park singer has performed with STP in the past, including on their 2001 single, "Wonderful." Bennington has also been part of side project Dead By Sunrise and has collaborated with such heavy-hitters as Jay-Z.
Stone Temple Pilots found themselves in need of a new lead singer after firing Scott Weiland in February. The band announced the frontman's termination in a single-sentence press release reading: "Stone Temple Pilots have announced they have officially terminated Scott Weiland."
Weiland, who has performed solo and with other projects such as Velvet Revolver with members of Gus N' Roses, is reportedly not too happy that the group would continue on as Stone Temple Pilots. He told a Las Vegas radio station, following his termination, that there are certain clauses he couldn't go in to, preventing the grunge group from continuing on with the name without him.
The singer, whose life has been plagued by arrests, domestic violence accusations and battles with substance abuse, claimed he couldn't be fired from a band he created, in response to the statement he had been fired. Weiland said he didn't know he was "fired" until he read it in the press.
Velvet Revolver had also parted ways with Weiland citing his eratic behavior on stage and lack of commitment to the group.
