A Texas man is credited with creating the mother of all Starbucks drinks on Saturday when he ordered a Frappuccino with dozens of espresso shots that totaled $54.75.
But Andrew Chifari did not have to foot the bill for what is being called the most expensive Starbucks drink ever. Thanks to his "Starbucks Rewards" membership, he got the frosty drink for free.
Members of the "My Starbucks Rewards" program are entitled to a free customized drink if they earn 12 points, a spokeswoman told ABC News.
The 27-year-old walked into the Dallas Starbucks to earn his free drink: a 128-ounce Frappuccino made with chocolate, white chocolate syrup, protein powder and caramel. Not to mention the hazelnut drizzle, whipped cream, nuts and cookie bits on top, ABC News reported.
Chifari also added 60 espresso shots for an extra boost.
"The recipe was just the best sounding thing I could think of that would make 50-plus shots drinkable," Chifari told the station. "And I knew I couldn't drink it all at once, so a drink over ice would get diluted when the ice melted so that was out.
"A frappuccino was the only thing that made sense. Beyond that, I just tried to find flavors that would go well together. I settled on chocolate, hazelnut and caramel."
Chifari said he thought of ordering the monster beverage when he came across a video about the last person to order the most expensive free Starbucks drink, which was $47.50 .
"I knew I could beat it and do better," he said.
It took Chifari five days to down the drink, which contained over 11 days-worth of caffeine, according to the New York Daily News.
Starbucks, however, wasn't too happy about Chifari's stunt.
"We want to ensure our customers receive the highest quality and most delicious tasting food and beverage products from us and we don't believe that this particular beverage choice was reflective of that," Starbucks spokeswoman Maggie Jantzen told the station.
