Microsoft Corp. is planning to add the ability to take and share screenshots to the Xbox One console.
The feature is one of many items the company has on its to-do list to fix and make improvements to its latest console, according to VentureBeat.
The Xbox One's GameDVR feature allows it to record up to five minutes of gameplay video. All players have to do is say "Xbox, record that", and they can create a clip including the last 30 seconds of gameplay.
While the console includes video recording, along with 720P Twitch streaming, it does not currently come equipped with the ability to take screenshots, Crave Online reported.
Phil Spencer, head of Microsoft's Xbox Division and Microsoft Studios, responded to a tweet on Wednesday asking if the Xbox One will include in-game screenshots, which he confirmed.
"Yea, this is the list for the monthly updates, team is making great progress on the updates," Spencer wrote. "More features to come."
Spencer did not give a timeline for when the feature will be included, VentureBeat reported. Gamers, who are currently more socially connected than before, see features such as screenshots and GameDVR as important for the gaming experience.
The addition of screenshots will bring the Xbox One closer to Sony's PlayStation 4, which already has the feature. Microsoft has released a number of updates throughout the month, such as adding real names to its friends list and support for external storage, which the PS4 had when it was released. However, there are several features that the Xbox One has that the PS4 doesn't or had to get afterwards, such as editing videos before sharing.
Microsoft is looking to make sure it catches up with its monthly update schedule and to add all new features, VentureBeat reported
Both Microsoft and Sony look to show their release schedules over the next few months at the Electronic Entertainment Expo tradeshow, which starts June 9th.
