Three People Found Dead Following Indianapolis Officer Shooting

Three people were found dead after a police officer in Indianapolis was shot on Friday morning, according to The Associated Press.

The bodies of two women were discovered inside of a home where a man opened fire at the officer, who was wearing a protective vest at the time.

While other officers found the man dead around 7:15 a.m., it was not immediately known how he died.

The wounded officer was identified as Greg Milburn -- a 10-year veteran of the city's police force. Lt. Christopher Bailey said he was transported to the hospital in good condition.

Authorities were called to the residence after reports of hearing a woman screaming. As Milburn approached the home, the gunman came out and exchanged fire with the officer.

It is unknown how the women found inside of the home were killed.

Prior to Friday's incident, the city reported having 60 homicides this year so far, coming to the deadliest year for Indianapolis in eight years.

Investigators are also unsure of the relationship between the gunman and the women.

"This is otherwise a peaceful block by all assertions and we want to make sure that we understand exactly what's happened," Police Chief Rick Hite said.

Authorities do not believe anyone else was involved in the women's deaths, The AP said.

In March, three people were killed in a shooting at an Indianapolis apartment complex.

Once officers arrived at Marina Apartments around 11:30 p.m., they discovered one woman and two men fatally shot. According to authorities, all three were pronounced dead at the scene.

Police Sgt. Kendale Adams told CBS News that narcotics were found in the apartment and authorities do not believe the attack was random. Additionally, officers would not go into detail about different leads.
